Groups on Madeira

We can look back to a successful last year 2009. Not only did we experienced an increase of the total participants for our daily Nature / Levada walks here on Madeira, but we have also seen an increase of groups from various countries such as: England, Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

For our daily walks we receive participants from all over Europe, and together with our (bilingual) guides are we pleased to share the passion for the nature with them. Thanks to the participant’s enthusiasm and motivation we experience great fun each time we walk the Levada´s of Madeira with them.

Walking with groups is sharing the joy of nature.

When a group or organization contacts us (regardless the nationality) we start designing a special program according to the needs of the group. We first discuss with the group leader and all the participants the following items:

  • Type of accommodation plus wishes;
  • Location;
  • Dates and Times;
  • A program to ensure that all the wishes from the group are met.

During this process we are in continuous contact with each other to build together the best program.

Each time when we welcome groups to Madeira Island, it becomes a new challenge for us. Each group has its own designed / tailor-made program. Groups can stay in various kind of accommodations, from local Residences to 5-star hotels. Nature Meetings will prepare a program, before the group confirms their visit to Madeira, of which we are confident it will guarantee an enjoyable time.

Groups are not only from various countries, but also from organizations, such as: walking groups, Sport organization, Associations (Bridge, Dancing, Yoga etc), local/private business, national institutions, schools, media, family/friends, etc.

Whatever the background and needs are, it is always a great pleasure for us to design, arrange and carry out groups programs on Madeira.

Together with all our partner Agencies, Tour Operators and the local authorities on Madeira, are we looking forward to another successful year 2010 in which we (again) will share our passion with all the visitors to this beautiful Island of Madeira.

Advantages of a Guided Tour

To various people we asked the following question: “What are the advantages of a guided tour in comparison with D.I.Y. tour?”. Here a the responses …

Marco Ferreira:
Part of the fun to know Madeira with a knowledgeable guide is to socialize with the local culture, habits and ideas that only a local guide is able to share with you right away from the beginning. You have to keep in mind that a local guide shall cover the several aspects of a big diversity of themes that may take you a lot of time to gather from the different sources available now days.

The great difference between a guided tour and a D.I.Y. is the fact of sharing information, opinions and emotions with a caring person that might at any time change your views about what you have established already as a conclusion.

More to come. If you want to contribute also, please send us your opinion.

Certified Mountain Guides

Madeira is a walking paradise for any “Nature- Lover”. To ensure that you enjoy your walk, we strongly recommend that you walk with Certified Mountain guide. Your safety is paramount and to ensure that you receive the best possible service available on Madeira, we only employ local guides who are in possession of a Madeira Mountain Guide Certificate.

For obvious reasons, safety starts before the walk and it is crucial that everyone is prepared for the challenge what is waiting for them. Walking the Levadas of Madeira or any other Nature walk brings its challenges and therefore we advice that every walker is wearing layered clothing (what is easy to remove) and has water proofs with them. Other requirements are: sun protection and water (if possible a torch).

Certified Mountain Guide

The highly trained mountain guides studied for 1 year, coffering everything in relation to walking on Madeira. This combination of responsibilities from both parties and Madeira’s walking facilities will give you a pleasant and relaxed walking experience.

Unfortunately, over the years more and more people have entered the walking industry, pretending to be a guide. These illegal “guides” are putting walkers life’s at risk, and are unable to supply the service, information and safety.

This situation has caused great concerns on Madeira and due to this there is an increase of accidents. To ensure that your guide is qualified with what he/she is doing we advise you to ask your guide to show you their license. Certified guides are proud with their profession and with their commitment to follow the very intensive guiding course.

Over the last few years we have seen more and more walking groups visiting Madeira. As walking lovers, we are very excited showing everyone this beautiful island. However some of these groups are bringing their own walking-leader who has no (Madeira) experience nor are qualified to guide. This is not only illegal according to the Portuguese law, it´s also very dangerous.

Cruises to Funchal, Madeira

As from September, Madeira has entered the “cruise season”. On a daily basis large cruise-ships are entering the harbour of Funchal. Due to the popularity of cruises to Madeira, the harbour authorities have decided to make various changes in the harbour to ensure that there is enough space for these large vessels. We see every year new cruises, however one of the regular cruises to Funchal is P&O Cruises with: Oreana, Aurora, Oceana, Artemis and Acradia.
Even when you see these large cruises regular arriving in the harbour of Funchal, it remains a spectacular show when they are “coming in”.

Other then P&O cruises, we see other regular cruises in Madeira’s harbour of Funchal such as: various MSC cruises, Costa Serena, Costa Marina, Costa Europa, Costa Luminosa, Costa Concordia, Aida Bella, Aida Cara, Aida Luna, Aida Vita, Thomson Celebration and Thomson Destiny, all these cruises (and there are many more) bringing in thousands of passengers who like to discover the little paradise in the Atlantic Ocean or better known as: Garden of the Atlantic Ocean, “The Floating Garden” or “The Pearl of the Atlantic Ocean”. Whatever you want to call or describe Madeira, we are proud that Madeira is attractive throughout the year with a pleasant annual climate.

Our groups on these cruises are always very keen to explore Madeira. Per foot (walking the Levadas), Bus Tours (West, East or Funchal Tour) or Jeep Safari’s. With the options of Half or Full days, we offer our groups the excursions they requested with or without lunch.

Even with these luxurious cruises, we hear from our certified guides that the clients are always pleased to leave the cruise for a few hours for an excursion that they designed themselves before arrival, together with our local specialist.

We are passionate to share our knowledge with any visitor to Madeira.
